Arsenal are closing in on a move for Queens Park Rangers' Loic
Remy as they look to add some firepower to their attacking line..
Rangers boss, Harry Redknapp, revealed last month that the France
international has an £8m release clause which Arsenal are reportedly
prepared to trigger. Remy impressed on loan at Newcastle last season,
bagging 14 goals, and he is understood to have made a move to North
London a priority as he searches for Champions League football..
The Gunners have been looking for a striker to support Olivier Giroud
for a while now and Mario Mandzukic and Alvaro Morata are also targets
being considered..
Loic Remy could be the ideal signing for Arsenal as with such a low
release clause, much of Wenger's reported £100m war chest would remain
to sign a new right-back after Bacary Sagna's exit. The Arsenal boss is
also chasing a defensive central-midfielder and a back-up goalkeeper..
Remy is currently with the French national side at the World Cup, but
has failed to score or notch an assist, although this is not too
disappointing considering he has only played 11 minutes, with Giroud and
Karim Benzema the preferred options..
Wenger's pursuit of two new strikers this summer indicates that he may
consider playing two up front next season, as Giroud's fantastic hold-up
play is being underutilised without an individual playing alongside
him..
Alan Pardew is keen on keeping Remy at Newcastle, but if the Gunners
come in with a bid, he may be powerless to hold on to the ambitious
forward..
